Xconomy Report: Dating Sites Offering Discounts

What do daily deals have to do with online dating? Well, Coffee Meets Bagel is a startup led by a Harvard Business School grad that’s taking a limited-time-only approach to matchmaking.

Every day it e-mails its members in Boston and New York an exclusive match, and users have 24 hours to decide if they’re interested. The website draws from mutual friend circles to make the love connections, and even offers coupons to local food and beverage spots for the first date. Of course, once you get there, you might find someone better.

In other innovation news…

---Drug companies are social too. Boston’s Enlight Biosciences has unveiled a new startup called Knode that’s developing professional networking tools for pharmaceutical companies. The startup has formed partnerships with AstraZeneca and others in the industry.

---Our deal of the week is a $34.5 million venture round for Waltham-based Bit9. The company, which has raised more than $80 million to date, makes security software to guard against cyber attacks.

---And finally, if you want global impact, look no further than EMC. The Hopkinton tech giant has a new partnership with Chinese PC maker Lenovo to develop and sell data storage and server products in China and beyond. This deal is definitely one to watch as the IT world becomes a truly global marketplace.
