NRA CEO: 'The Only Thing that Stops a Bad Guy With a Gun Is a Good Guy with a Gun'
National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre blasted politicians, the media, and the film and video game industries for creating a culture of violence that leads to mass shootings like the one in Newtown, Conn., and called for armed police and volunteers to secure the nation's schools.
"The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," he said.
Mass Gun Licenses by City/Town
LaPierre said new gun laws would only serve to encourage shooters. Gun-free school zones "tell every insane killer in America that schools are safest place to inflict maximum mayhem with minimum risk," he said.
LaPierre was interrupted twice by protesters during the press conference. The first yelled, "NRA stop killing our children." The second shouted, "NRA has blood on its hands, ban assault weapons now."
Former U.S. Rep. Asa Hutchinson also spoke, announcing an NRA program called "The National School Shield," which would train volunteers to respond to school shootings.
