The Mountaintop Brings MLK Down to Earth
Yesterday we saw our first black President sworn into a second term. Quite symbolically, the day fell on Martin Luther King Day. Dr. King and his fight for civil rights likely played a huge role in paving President Obama’s path to the White House.
Dr. King’ and he pressures of being the face of the civil right’s movement is the subject of Katori Hall's play The Mountaintop. A local production of this play is presented by the Underground Railway Theater, which is onstage at the Central Square Theater.
Jared Bowen sat down with the two actors who carry this production, Maurice Parent, who starts as Dr, Martin Luther King Jr.,and
actor Kami Smith who plays Camae, a maid at the Lorraine Motel.
