'Mass' Confusion: The Perils Of Quoting First Responders

There’s a reason for the old prohibition against reporting what you hear on the police and fire scanner. Sometimes preliminary information shared among first responders ends up being untrue. They also may use words and terminology that may seem alarmist to the general public. A recent concert in Boston is a case in point.
