Leno's Curtain Call: Comedian Got His Start In Boston
Boston has a good sense of humor. This city launched the careers of Conan O’Brien, Denis Leary, Jeaneane Garofalo, and Paula Poundstone, just to name a few. It’s also where Jay Leno got his start. The Andover native and Emerson College graduate hosts his final episode of “The Tonight Show” tonight, and to mark Leno’s departure, we’re looking back at the role Boston played in kickstarting his career.
- Steve Sweeney is a stand-up comedian and Charlestown native known for his role on the 1979 locally produced sitcom “Park Street Under,” which is credited with inspiring the show “Cheers.” He performed alongside Jay Leno at nightclubs like Nick’s Comedy Stop here in Boston.
