Big Papi Garners Most Boston Mayoral Write-In Votes

While there is no official tally of the write-in votes in Tuesday's Boston mayoral election, it appears that the man below received more votes than anyone else, according to the Boston Election Department.

It's an impressive showing for someone who was not actually running for the seat.

However, even if David Ortiz had received every one of the 560 write-in votes, he still would have fallen 71,954 votes short of mayor-elect Marty Walsh.

Ortiz came to the Boston Red Sox in 2003.  In ten seasons with the team, “Big Papi” has been named an all-star nine times and won three World Series titles.

This year, Ortiz was named the World Series MVP after batting .688 with a .750 on-base percentage and 1.188 slugging percentage, belting two home runs and driving in six runs as the Red Sox defeated the St. Louis Cardinals four games to two.

Ortiz holds the Red Sox single-season record for home runs with 54 (2006).
