Alloy Orchestra Brings the Noise to Buster Keaton Silent Shorts

Buster Keaton

Here's an idea, film buffs.

Saturday, February 23 at the Somerville theater in Davis Square, they are screening three early short films starring Buster Keaton. And that's not even the cool part.

The cool part comes courtesy of World Music/CRASHarts and the Alloy Orchestra, three Cambridge-based musicians, who are the best in the world at what they do: scoring old silent movies, live, using everything from synthesizers to to old hubcaps.

They joined us on BPR to give us a taste of their unique sound and a preview of the score for the Keaton shorts.

Guests:

  • Ken Winoker, Alloy Orchestra director, junk percussionist, clarinetist
  • Terry Donahue, Alloy Orchestra junk percussionist, and multi-instrumentalist
  • Roger Miller, Alloy Orchestra keyboard player
